Breeding scheme update |
This coming year the WHC breeding scheme will be purchasing a pair of Peregrine’s. We will be looking for Club members (FULL), who have the relevant experience training and fly long wings, to put there name forward for consideration.
After the first year the pair would be put in to breeding pen and hopefully in two/three years from now we will have WHC Peregrine’s, to offer to the members as well as the Goshawks.
We have put an application form on the breeding project page, for you to fill in or you can email at breedingofficer@thewelshhawkingclub.com

Bird Flu: update |

INFORMATION BULLETIN
Ref: 440/07
Date: 23 November 2007Nobel House, 17 Smith Square, London SW1P 3JR

Avian Influenza update: bird gatherings permitted outside restricted zone Defra today announced that it is lifting the ban on bird gatherings, shows and pigeon racing which has been in place since confirmation of avian influenza in Suffolk on 12 November. This decision is based on expert consideration of surveillance and tracing results.
As a precautionary measure, the ban will remain in place within the Restricted, Surveillance and Protection Zones in Suffolk and Norfolk. Birds from those zones will not be able to be taken to gatherings in the rest of the country.
Bird gatherings must take place under the normal biosecurity, notification and record-keeping requirements of a general licence, which can be found on the Defra website.
Further information on avian influenza can be found on the Defra
website. |

Bird Flu: bird fairs, markets, shows and other gatherings |
As from Monday 12th November 2007 all bird gatherings, including falconry displays, fairs, markets, shows, exhibitions and pigeon races, are banned in GB for the time being due to the avian influenza situation. All such gatherings planned over the next few days must be cancelled.
The General Licence issued under Regulation 6 of the Preventive Measures (England) Regulations 2006 (Link to OPSI website) on 14 August is therefore revoked.
The ban has been put in place because of the high risk nature of bird gatherings and our current uncertainty of the epidemiology of this disease. We will keep this ban under review as the disease situation develops. However, events can continue if they only involve a single bird or birds which are normally kept together so do not pose an increased risk of disease spread but guidance should be followed.

Club Officers |
Dear members,
As discussed during the last AGM (25-Oct.) some of the club officers will step down. After many years of good work Mike Clowes and Jan France have decided to retire from the committee and they would like to provide an opportunity for new people to step forward.
This means that for next year there will be vacant positions for:
- Secretary
- Press & Publicity
- Members Secretary
Best regards,
The Committee |
